Test taking anxiety nowadays seems like an unspoken taboo. Many students experience it, but for some reason many of them rather stay quiet about it. We’re here to break this stigma.

Many experience it, and those that work on it and conquer it, will not only be better off for the test prep exam at hand (whatever it may be) but also for life. Below we will be speaking about some techniques that we use with our students.

Tips for during the exam:

  • Close your eyes and breathe in slowly and deeply through your nose. Count from 10 backwards and try to keep every inhale and exhale the same amount of time.
  • When you breathe out make sure you’re breathing out with enough strength to hear a low "whooshing" sound as you breathe out.
  • Once you get to zero you should feel much more relaxed and ready to conquer the exam at hand.


  • Tips for before the exam:

  • Visualization: imagine that you are in the exam and that you are going to go through it seamlessly without any hiccups. Obviously this is almost impossible to not struggle on any questions but building your confidence beforehand and being positive can take you a very long way
  • Study early and create a routine that works for YOU. Many of our students that feel anxiety before the exam say that their anxiety levels drop significantly for the SAT and ACT if they build a study routine that is consistent, not too stressful, and makes them feel as if they’re chipping away at achieving whatever test prep score they need.
  • Build exercise and healthy eating habits into your pre test studying routine.
  • Don’t forget sleep...!
  • Build a study guide with every topic that you struggle with. This way you can quiz yourself dozens of times before exam day to ensure that you don’t make silly mistakes on any topics that you already learned. This is something that our instructors at Amikka Test Prep focus on heavily.
