College Advising Curriculum

High school college advisors are often overwhelmed with supporting the entire grade.
Amikka’s expert 1:1 advisors provide students with personalized strategies for every step
of the college admissions process, from freshman to senior year.

  1. College Applications

From start to finish, we guide students through every aspect of their application, ensuring they become highly competitive candidates for any university.

  2. Personal Statement & Essay Writing

Students learn to showcase their unique strengths and clearly demonstrate the value they bring to a college campus through compelling essays. We help brainstorm topics, write rough drafts, make revisions, and finalize before submitting.

  3. Building a Hook

To stand out among thousands of applicants, students develop a cohesive theme across their extracurriculars, highlighting their interests and talents.

  4. College Lists & Selection

We create a personalized college list of reach, match, and safety schools based on each student's goals and preferences. Once acceptances arrive, we help students evaluate their options and choose the best fit.

  5. Common App Activities Section

We help students maximize their limited character space on the Common App Activities section by crafting concise, impact-driven descriptions. Our advisors ensure each entry is strategically worded to highlight achievements, leadership, and contributions.

  6. Recommendation Letters

Our advisors guide students in selecting the right recommenders—teachers, mentors, managers, or coaches—who can best highlight their strengths and character.

  7. Interview Preparation

We ensure that students are confident and prepared for college interviews. Our advisors lead mock interviews and reveal the most commonly asked questions.

  8. Financial Aid

Maximizing financial aid opportunities can make any university in the country accessible. We help qualifying students understand and apply for financial aid packages.

  9. Scholarship Applications

We provide students with scholarship lists and help them identify and apply for opportunities to make tuition more affordable. Amikka students have earned over $25 million in total scholarships.

Founders

Christopher and Christian graduated from UPenn and worked at Google and Gatorade. Now with Amikka, they’ve built a team
of 100+ tutors focused on providing families with affordable access to personalized 1:1 tutoring and innovative AI technology.

Christopher, a first-generation college student who couldn’t afford expensive tutoring, spent hundreds of hours deconstructing the SAT on his own. After improving his score by 400 points and earning admission to UPenn, Christopher created Amikka’s affordable SAT/ACT tutoring programs, which have now helped over 3,000 students. Christopher worked at Google for several years before leaving to focus on Amikka full-time.

Christian grew up in a small town and became the first student from his high school to attend UPenn. After several years of helping students improve their SAT/ACT scores and craft their college essays, he built Amikka’s college admissions advising program, which has now helped our students earn over $25 million in total scholarships. Following his graduation from UPenn, Christian worked at Gatorade before transitioning full-time to Amikka.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of Amikka 1-on-1 college advising versus the college counselor at my child’s high school?

High school college counselors often support hundreds of students at once, making it difficult to provide the personalized attention needed for a highly competitive application. At Amikka, our 1-on-1 advising ensures that each student receives tailored guidance specific to their goals, strengths, and interests.

How does our pricing compare to our competitors?

Most 1-on-1 college advising programs cost $200+ per hour. At around $60 per hour, we’re extremely affordable in comparison. Our mission is to expand access to higher education for students of all backgrounds and circumstances.

When is the best time to get started with college advising?

We begin working with students as early as freshman year, providing comprehensive strategies to guide them through every stage of high school. Our program helps students build a strong academic and extracurricular profile, craft standout essays, and secure scholarships—all while staying ahead of deadlines.

The earlier students start, the more time they have to maximize their opportunities and position themselves for success at their dream schools.

What makes Amikka’s tutors and advisors special?

All Amikka advisors attended highly selective universities like UPenn, Duke, and Harvard. Most are undergraduate students or recent college graduates, allowing them to relate to and connect with high school students on a personal level. Having gone through admissions within the last 10 years, our advisors are fully up to date on the latest strategies for becoming a competitive applicant.

Beyond their expertise, they are friendly, motivating, and engaging—dedicated to helping students succeed. The name “Amikka” is inspired by the Spanish word “amiga,” meaning friend—a reflection of our commitment to making learning a supportive and positive experience.

What parts of the admissions and application process do we help with?

We provide comprehensive guidance through every step of the college admissions process. This includes writing college essays, completing the Common Application strategically, structuring the activities list, gaining leadership in extracurriculars, developing an application hook, creating a balanced college list, securing strong recommendation letters, preparing for college interviews, applying for scholarships and financial aid, and more.

Is the advising online or in person?

To provide maximum flexibility for our students, we utilize fully online advising via Zoom. This allows students to learn from the comfort of their preferred setting while giving us access to the highest-quality advisors nationwide rather than being limited to a single local community.

What’s our target acceptance guarantee?

We provide families with peace of mind by making our courses risk-free. Students are guaranteed acceptance to one of their target universities. If that’s not achieved, families can become eligible to receive a 50% refund on all hours allocated to college advising.

How do we match students with the right advisor?

Our advisor-matching process is a top priority. When students sign up, we use their responses from a short questionnaire to match them with an advisor who best fits their schedule, learning style, and admissions needs. This ensures a personalized and effective learning experience from day one.

What happens if it’s not the right fit with our advisor?

For your peace of mind, we’re committed to providing a flexible and risk-free experience for getting started with our program. With no long-term contracts, you have the freedom to switch instructors at any time to find the perfect match.

Is working with a college coach a strategic investment?

  • The cost of college is skyrocketing, and scholarships are becoming increasingly competitive. This makes working with a college coach a strategic investment in a student’s future.
  • A qualified college advisor can increase a student's chances of getting scholarships by helping with scholarship lists, essays, applications, and interviews. This can save families a significant amount of money when it comes to paying for college.

How does Amikka help a student develop a positive attitude?

  • Our team has been trained to create a positive and supportive learning environment so students feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves.
  • We believe that a positive attitude is essential for success in college admissions, academics, and standardized testing. When students are motivated and excited about learning, they are more likely to achieve their goals.
