UF is Florida's most competitive public university, and SAT scores matter. The middle 50% range for admitted students is approximately 1330-1490, meaning the median admitted student scores around 1410. If you're below 1330, you're not automatically rejected, but you'll need exceptional grades, essays, and extracurriculars to compensate.
UF also superscores the SAT, meaning they take your highest Reading/Writing and highest Math from across all test dates. This is a major advantage — it means every sitting gives you a chance to improve one section.
FSU's middle 50% SAT range is approximately 1230-1390. The median is around 1310, making FSU significantly more accessible than UF while still being selective. A 1300+ puts you in strong position for admission and competitive for merit scholarships.
FSU's admissions process is holistic, meaning they consider your full application. But a strong SAT score can offset a slightly lower GPA, especially if you're applying to competitive programs like business or engineering.
UCF admits the largest freshman class of any Florida public university, and their SAT range reflects that accessibility. The middle 50% is roughly 1170-1350, with a median around 1260. A 1200+ makes you competitive, and 1300+ puts you in a strong position for Honors College consideration.
UCF is an excellent example of where SAT improvement directly translates to scholarship dollars. The difference between 1150 and 1300 can mean thousands in merit aid over four years.
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has a middle 50% around 1100-1270. FIU sits at approximately 1080-1250. USF is slightly higher at 1150-1330. UNF ranges from 1100-1280.
For all of these schools, a score above 1200 makes you a strong candidate and opens merit scholarship opportunities. Above 1300 and you're typically in the top quartile of admits.
For Florida students, Bright Futures is where SAT scores directly convert to tuition dollars. The Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award requires a 1330 SAT (Reading + Math only) and covers 100% of tuition plus a stipend. The Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) requires a 1210 and covers 75% of tuition.
These thresholds are non-negotiable — miss by one point and you miss the scholarship. This is why targeted SAT prep focused on hitting specific score targets is so valuable for Florida families.
