The Florida Calendar Changes the Math

Generic advice about SAT test dates ignores three things Florida juniors deal with: a free school-day SAT in the spring, AP exams that swallow April and May, and early application deadlines that arrive November 1 of senior year. Build the testing timeline around those three fixed points and the right dates pick themselves.

Fall of Junior Year: The First Real Sitting

The October or November SAT is the ideal first official sitting for most juniors in the class of 2028. Course content from sophomore year is still fresh, fall extracurriculars are lighter than spring ones, and an early baseline leaves the maximum number of retake windows. Students who prepped over the summer sometimes finish here entirely. Register early, because registration deadlines close about five weeks before each date and Miami-area centers fill fast.

Spring: The School-Day SAT Is Your Anchor

Florida juniors get a free school-day SAT in March or April. Treat it as a guaranteed at-bat: if fall went well, this is the score-raising retake. If fall did not happen, this is the baseline. Either way it costs nothing and requires no Saturday. The May SAT, by contrast, lands directly in AP season, and we generally steer students away from it unless they have no AP load.

June: The Best-Kept Secret for Juniors

The June SAT is the strongest closing date on the calendar. AP exams are over, school is winding down, and students can give the test two or three weeks of focused attention. A junior who finishes with a peak score in June enters senior year done with testing, which is exactly where you want to be before application deadlines hit.

Senior Fall: The Backstop, Not the Plan

The August and October dates of senior year still make the November 1 early deadlines, and October scores usually arrive in time. They work as a final superscore attempt, but relying on them adds stress to the busiest semester of high school. Plan to be done in June; keep August in your back pocket.

Christopher Hernandez, the founder of Amikka Learning, couldn't afford expensive SAT tutoring so he spent hundreds of hours studying on his own.

After improving over 400 points and attending an Ivy League school he realized how unfair the playing field was with tutoring: no matter how smart you were, if you couldn't afford tutoring you were stuck.
His dream was to change this.

He began tutoring for the SAT and quickly realized that he was a gifted tutor. His students were loving his program and improving very fast.

Fast forward 8 years, Amikka is a leader in the education industry and has helped thousands of students get into their dream schools.
