The College Board offers the SAT seven times during the 2025-2026 testing year: August 2025, October 2025, November 2025, December 2025, March 2026, May 2026, and June 2026. Each date is offered on a Saturday, with Sunday alternatives available for students with religious conflicts.
Not all test centers offer every date, so register early to secure your preferred location — especially for spring dates, which fill fastest in South Florida.
Standard registration closes approximately five weeks before each test date. After that, you can register during a late period (up to about two weeks before the test) for an additional fee of roughly $30. Changes to your test center or date also incur fees after the standard deadline.
Set calendar reminders for registration deadlines. Missing the standard window doesn't prevent you from testing, but the extra cost and limited center availability make it worth planning ahead.
The base SAT fee is approximately $60. Score reports sent to colleges beyond the four free ones cost about $14 each. Rush reporting and other add-ons carry additional charges.
Fee waivers are available for students from low-income families — your school counselor can provide these. Waivers cover two SAT registrations, unlimited score reports to colleges, and waive college application fees at participating schools. If cost is a concern, ask your counselor before paying out of pocket.
Florida public school students have a unique advantage: free SAT testing through School Day administration, typically offered to juniors in the spring (March or April). Your school administers the test during the school day — same official SAT, same score report, no Saturday morning required.
This is a major benefit, but don't treat it as your only attempt. Use School Day as your baseline score, then register for a Saturday SAT after focused preparation to improve.
The best test date is one that gives you enough preparation time while leaving room for a retake. If you're a junior starting prep in January, aim for the March or May SAT with a June retake option.
If you're a senior, fall dates (August, October) are your primary targets, with November as a final opportunity for regular decision applications. December SATs can work for some schools but cut it close for many application deadlines.
Go to collegeboard.org and create a College Board account (or log in). Click "Register for the SAT," select your test date, choose your test center, and enter any accommodations. Upload a recent photo for your admission ticket, then pay or apply a fee waiver.
Print your admission ticket, verify all details are correct, and bring it on test day along with an acceptable photo ID and approved calculator.
