Where Does 1500 Fall at Each Ivy?

A 1500 SAT score places you in the 98th percentile of all test-takers. By any standard measure it is an excellent score. At every Ivy League school, 1500 falls within or very close to the admitted student range. At Harvard and Princeton, where the middle 50% is 1500 to 1580, you sit at the bottom of that range. At Brown, Cornell, and Dartmouth, where the range starts closer to 1460 to 1470, a 1500 is solidly competitive. For a full breakdown, see our Ivy League SAT scores guide.

Is 1500 Enough to Get In?

A 1500 will not get you rejected from any Ivy on the basis of your test score alone. However, at schools with 3 to 5% acceptance rates, the vast majority of applicants have scores in this range or higher and most are still rejected. More than 70% of Harvard applicants have SAT scores above 1400. The SAT clears a threshold, and everything else in your application determines whether you get in.

Should You Retake for 1550+?

It depends on where you are targeting. If your dream school is Harvard, Princeton, or MIT, pushing from 1500 to 1530 to 1560 moves you from the bottom to the middle of the admitted range. That small improvement can matter at the margins. If you are targeting Brown, Cornell, or Dartmouth, where 1500 is solidly in range, your time is better spent on essays, activities, and the rest of your application.

What Else Matters for Ivy League

At this level everyone has the numbers. Course rigor, extracurricular depth, essays that reveal intellectual curiosity, and strong teacher recommendations are what separate admitted from rejected. Many schools also superscore the SAT, so if you decide to retake, focus on improving your weaker section and let the school combine your best scores.

A 1500 SAT opens every door. If you decide to push higher, our experienced tutors at Amikka Learning specialize in helping high scorers reach 1550 and above.

Christopher Hernandez, the founder of Amikka Learning, couldn't afford expensive SAT tutoring so he spent hundreds of hours studying on his own.

After improving over 400 points and attending an Ivy League school he realized how unfair the playing field was with tutoring: no matter how smart you were, if you couldn't afford tutoring you were stuck.
His dream was to change this.

He began tutoring for the SAT and quickly realized that he was a gifted tutor. His students were loving his program and improving very fast.

Fast forward 8 years, Amikka is a leader in the education industry and has helped thousands of students get into their dream schools.
