The University of Miami accepted approximately 19% of applicants for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle. Located in Coral Gables, UM is one of the most selective private universities in the Southeast and attracts applicants from across the country with strong academics, Division I athletics, and its Miami location.
The middle 50% of admitted UM students scored between 1350 and 1500 on the SAT. A 1400 SAT score puts you right in the competitive range. UM is test-optional for 2026, but students who submit strong scores have a significant advantage. If your SAT is above 1400, submitting it will strengthen your application.
UM superscores the SAT, meaning they consider your highest section scores across multiple test dates. This is a major advantage if you plan to take the SAT more than once. On the GPA side, competitive applicants typically have unweighted GPAs of 3.7 or above.
UM offers two Early Decision rounds, and applying ED significantly increases your chances. ED acceptance rates are typically 10 to 15 percentage points higher than regular decision. If UM is your top choice, ED is the strongest strategic move you can make. UM values demonstrated interest, so visiting campus and referencing specific programs in your essays also helps.
Beyond scores and GPA, UM looks for students who want to take advantage of Miami as a living laboratory. Reference specific research opportunities, internship connections, or cultural institutions that align with your major and career goals. Strong programs include the Rosenstiel School of Marine Science, Herbert Business School, and Frost School of Music.
