FSU Acceptance Rate and Admissions Overview

Florida State University has become increasingly selective in recent years, with an acceptance rate around 25 to 30% for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle. FSU is a top-25 public university nationally and attracts tens of thousands of applicants each year from Florida and across the country.

The growing number of applications means that what was once considered a safe school for many Florida students now requires genuine preparation and a competitive application.

SAT Score Range for FSU

The middle 50% of admitted FSU students score between 1200 and 1370 on the SAT. A 1200 SAT score puts you at the low end of competitiveness, while a 1300 SAT score or higher makes your application much stronger. If you are aiming for honors programs or merit scholarships, target 1350 or above.

Keep in mind that FSU also accepts the ACT. For a full comparison of which test might be better for you, check out our SAT vs ACT guide.

GPA Expectations and Course Rigor

FSU expects a weighted GPA of around 4.0 or higher for competitive applicants. Taking AP, IB, or AICE courses demonstrates academic rigor and can boost your weighted GPA significantly. The combination of a strong GPA with a competitive SAT score is what makes the difference in FSU admissions.

How FSU Compares to UF and UCF

Our SAT score for UF FSU UCF comparison breaks down all three schools side by side. In brief, UF is the most selective, FSU sits in the middle, and UCF is the most accessible. But all three schools are trending more competitive, so a strong SAT score gives you the most flexibility across your Florida applications.

Students who qualify for Bright Futures scholarship with a 1210 SAT earn the Medallion Scholars Award, while a 1330 earns the full Academic Scholars Award — both of which can be used at FSU.

Strengthening Your FSU Application

Beyond scores and grades, FSU values leadership, community involvement, and a compelling personal essay. Invest time in your college essay and extracurricular portfolio. If your SAT score is not yet competitive, build a structured SAT study plan and consider working with a tutor who understands the Florida admissions landscape. Amikka Learning's SAT prep Miami program has helped hundreds of Florida students reach their target scores.

Christopher Hernandez, the founder of Amikka Learning, couldn't afford expensive SAT tutoring so he spent hundreds of hours studying on his own.

After improving over 400 points and attending an Ivy League school he realized how unfair the playing field was with tutoring: no matter how smart you were, if you couldn't afford tutoring you were stuck.
His dream was to change this.

He began tutoring for the SAT and quickly realized that he was a gifted tutor. His students were loving his program and improving very fast.

Fast forward 8 years, Amikka is a leader in the education industry and has helped thousands of students get into their dream schools.
