FIU Acceptance Rate in 2026

Florida International University accepted approximately 49% of applicants for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle. FIU is one of the largest public universities in the country with over 56,000 students across two Miami campuses, and while it remains more accessible than UF or FSU, admission has become increasingly competitive in recent years.

SAT Score and GPA Requirements

The middle 50% of admitted FIU students scored between 1100 and 1270 on the SAT. A 1200 SAT score puts you solidly in the upper half of admitted students. On the GPA side, FIU expects a weighted GPA of 3.3 or above, though competitive programs like Engineering and Hospitality have higher expectations.

FIU is known for several standout programs including the Chaplin School of Hospitality, which is ranked top 5 nationally, and the College of Engineering, which expects stronger math scores. If you are targeting a competitive program, aim higher than the overall averages.

How FIU Compares to Other Florida Schools

Our SAT score comparison for Florida schools shows how FIU stacks up against other state universities. UF is the most selective at 23%, followed by FSU at 25%, UCF at 30%, and FIU at 49%. FIU offers a strong balance of academic quality and attainable admission standards, especially for Miami-area students.

Christopher Hernandez, the founder of Amikka Learning, couldn't afford expensive SAT tutoring so he spent hundreds of hours studying on his own.

After improving over 400 points and attending an Ivy League school he realized how unfair the playing field was with tutoring: no matter how smart you were, if you couldn't afford tutoring you were stuck.
His dream was to change this.

He began tutoring for the SAT and quickly realized that he was a gifted tutor. His students were loving his program and improving very fast.

Fast forward 8 years, Amikka is a leader in the education industry and has helped thousands of students get into their dream schools.
